The BSU Trumpet Studio strives for excellence.  Our studio is an interactive learning experience - with abundant performing opportunities in every style, weekly individual hour-long lessons, a trumpet ensemble recognized throughout the region as one of the highest achieving - with performances at two International Trumpet Guild conferences (Denver and Banff), and an atmosphere of friendly but competitive collaboration among the students.  During the 2009-10 school year we recorded our first CD.

Our studio has been visited by more professional trumpet players than any other school in the region.  In recent years we've hosted Allen Vizzutti, Sean Jones, Wayne Bergeron, the entire Minnesota Orchestra trumpet section (many times), Laurie Frink, Tim Farrell, Allan Dean, Ray Sasaki, Bobby Shew, Joe Burgstaller, the Canadian Brass, American Brass Quintet, Niklas Eklund, Vince DiMartino, Pat Harbison, Joyce Davis, Byron Stripling, and many others.

“I have really enjoyed meeting and working with Del Lyren.  He is obviously a superb trumpet player but what I saw that I really loved was his high level of energy regarding his dedication to being a good teacher.  He seems to be in constant pursuit of things that can expand the awareness of his students of all styles of trumpet playing.  It’s not so often that the classically-oriented teachers support and encourage a more eclectic approach to learning and especially to include a program of jazz playing.  Del is an exception and I highly recommend him and the Bemidji program.”
